Ah – that game of liberation.  Yes, our cats are constantly trying to liberate hidden noisy toys and plastic bags.  And silly things like stupid springs with pom poms on the end they put on the end of some cat toys.  Our cats just see them and think "food".  I have no idea why. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Also, my nose and earlobes seem to be free game. > Sam Shults > *Annette runs to the bathroom and frantically scrubs face!!* > > > My cat goes absolutely bonkers after a 4-5 foot length of string > dragged > > > and dangled in her presence. Ha ha!  Well, not the door, but she probably gets almost five feet onto my back… she’s hit my shoulder direct land and I am 5′3”.  She gets those nutty dilated pupils too.  She is also the one who also opens doors by leaping up, grabbing doorhandle, and hanging until it gives (round knob too), and swings until she’s in.  Maniac cat.  Kitten (shes only 10 mos, half siamese).  I am real glad she doesn’t go at walls like that… holy crap.  Yeah, Muffin is definitely on the nip. The one dumb thing this kid of ours does is sleep with her head, and head only, under the couch.  She looks stupid!  This little meatloaf sticking out of the couch with no head.  Sleeping.  Weirdo!  What does she think she is, an ostrich?

hee.. when I was in high school, we occasionally got a mouse in the wall… our cat could hear it but not see it.. it drove him nuts! there was also a tiny chip in the plaster about 3 feet up the wall, he was alla time batting at that. and cicadas.. he’d sit under a tree looking up, just waiting for one to come down. > Ribbons tied just out of reach on the ceiling fan are fun but get the cat real > dizzy.

our old house had a ceiling fan that had a very slow setting.. we attached a string to one of the blades, long enough for her to chase but too short for her to get caught in, and turned it on. sometimes we tied one of her toy mice to the end too. was great fun for her to play with and for us to watch. :) the fans at our new house go too fast for that, though… Rebecca — "The internet was invented specifically for displaying pictures of one’s cat." http://briefcase.yahoo.com/wondertwnz

oh yeah, and the pull rings from milk carton caps! that was the only toy my Maggie (RB) would ever play with. Gobo (the one who chased the ceiling fan string) will play with just about any toy, and Slinkee loves those little toy cars that you pull back to make them go. then there’s the christmas tree decoration my daughter made one year in grade school, a wreath of pipe cleaner and lace. Gobo has claimed that as her toy. she loves the thing.. I could never actually hang it up cause Go would knock the tree down to get it! Cable ties! The *big* plastic ones. Twist them a couple of times and put the end through the slot and tighten so you have a curly effect (and so the loop is too small to get a head in). For some reason, this creates THE Favored Cat Toy. I don’t know if they could get hurt or not, but I always put it away if I’m not going to be able to supervise. So far, only wild games of kitchen-floor hockey that last for almost an hour have resulted. Lia

A big crawly bug in a large clear plastic tube with end caps works well till the bug runs down. A vacuum hose and marbles is fun, too, but it’s human powered. Bubbles are fun if they aren’t scared of ‘em; use a fan to keep from hyper ventilating. Any kind of rod under anything (towel, couch cushion, etc.) is a winner; if they can’t see it, they like it better. A real snake (non-venomous) under a towel is a real hoot. Paper planes and helicopters are fun, but human powered. In a mobile home, holler into one vent in one room and the cat in another room will go nuts; also make noises into the end of a vacuum hose. Some radio control cars are fairly cheap and fun ($15 at Radio Shark). Ribbons tied just out of reach on the ceiling fan are fun but get the cat real dizzy. Gary Schooley

"ditto" to almost every item listed above. Our cats pupils dilate when they see the toilet paper roll (kept too high for them to reach, for obvious reasons)… sometimes they get it if one of us is not thinking and it will be ALL over the house rather quickly (or until caught).  Same goes for the kleenex… Plastic bags… but only when watched, and usually only after a grocery trip.  The big cat licks them. The little cat sees ghosts every night around midnight – the cheapest toy of all!!!  (this is one nutty cat in the midnight crazies…she thinks all humans are trees, unfortunately). The cat forts – made by my husband of blankets and chairs, or boxes… usually outstretched paws will extend and bat everything that passes by. Our cats use our bathtub like a BUNKER.  I kid you not.  The big one thinks he is invisible behind the showercurtain.  He will watch with big eyes, and bat you when you pass.  If the other cat tries to enter, he will push her out with both paws, because it is his army bunker.  It is real funny – he will tear down the hall, turn… run to the bathroom, and leap into the bunker, quickly turn around and go on "high alert" (I have watched from toilet – tis very funny). But even with all this fun, probably their favorite toy is still the ball in the track with the cardboard scratching pad in the middle (in above post, actually)… they still go bonkers for that thing (and it was purchased). OK, Muggles in his bunker – he has a lot of fun… that may be pretty close…OH!  Or maybe our lizard… that poor guy… he is really intense, and speeds across the cage, which just excites the cats… ooh, the fun they have.  I wish I was a cat!!

Paper planes and helicopters are fun, but human powered. In a mobile home, holler into one vent in one room and the cat in another room will go nuts; also make noises into the end of a vacuum hose.
