Where do you get that great leap in logic. I read this group and I am on a diabetic pet list because I have two cats whom I care for very much. It is the silly baby talk between (supposed) adults that I find objectional. Save it for the cat! >Hence it comes to reason that you must be a simpleton.

Hi, I have two (!) fish with claws and I feel very lucky that they love water. Place the water dishes on a large try with a lip so any spilled water stays in the tray. Do separate water and food dishes but leave them available at all times. Cats tend to drink more when the dishes are separated. I also leave the tap on in the tub or the sink sporadically and whenever I notice they are particularly water-interested. That way they can play to their heart’s content – with yours, it may minimize the playing in the water dishes. Hope this helps – in the meantime just make things around the water dishes as water-proof as you can and enjoy. Monica

He may "outgrow" his love of playing in the water, but in the meantime it would be a good idea for you to get a plastic tray, or something like it, with raised edges to put his water dish on. This way, if he spills it, at least the water will (for the most part) stay in the tray instead of spreading across the floor.
You may also want to try purposefully leaving water in "okayed" places for him to play in throughout the day (eg: leave a bit in the bathroom sink, or leave some in the deep end of the tub but just a bit, etc.). Then maybe he’d be more inclined to play with that rather than his water dish. Good luck and just remember: Things could always be worse! <g> Take care, Cindi, Little Bones & Persephone =^^= – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > HELP!!!! > My 7 month old kitten thinks he is a fish. > He loves the water. > Plays in the sink, sleeps in the soaking wet shower, water never ever > stays in the dish, the minute i put it diown, his feet are in it > every morning i wake up to a soaking wet floor…..i used to think it > was sorta cute..but enough is enough already > I wated more $$$ on food becasue i used to have one of those dishes > that had food&water in one and he used to get all the food soggy then > refused to eat it, so i thought i was being smart and got a heavy > Skipper’s Mommy > (maybe i shouldn’t have named him after anything having to do with > water- in which case, I’m eternally doomed)

Try putting down a really really absorbant type shammie under his water dish. Pick the water UP at night, surely your cat can survive a few hours without water before breakfast. Drain the water in the sink.. keep the toilet lid shut etc.. and good luck.
