why does my cat watch me in the shower?

Question:

Sorry!  I got so excited over the similarities that I forgot … I have no idea why Baryy, or your cats, do it!  They’re just "special!" Response:

my cats BOTH do this. it’s rather creepy. they sit on the edge of the tub and just STARE at me. occasionally one of them will cry in distress. they also love to lick the water off my hands. i’ve always thought that they do this to be in whatever room i’m in. they only hang out in there when i’m in the shower…oh, and on the toilet. i hope your cat doesn’t watch you on the toilet. it is completely disconcerting. -jen If a pig loses it’s voice, is it disgruntled?

You _named_ your cat "Psycho"?  And you expect people to believe this is not a troll?  My reply was going to be that your cat was obviously planning to reenact the shower scene from Psycho. >(they are litter mates and very close) cried until we let him in the >bathroom and then he was fine…  Not only this but whenever my husband or I >takes a shower he comes into the bathroom and sits in the window and waits >until we are done.  Anyway here is my question- does anyone know why he >might do this?

Or maybe Chompers is watching to protect you from Psycho…

My new cat cried to be let in while I was in the bathroom, in just that, er, posture, whereupon I greeted him and inquired to his wishes. When he hopped in the tub, pawed around some, and then urinated, I just laughed out loud.  How can you be annoyed at such companionship? Now, when several days later he defecated in the tub while I was not there, we had to have a little remedial talk about using the litter box.  He promised not to do it again if I promised to clean out his litter box more frequently.  :-)

OMG!!!  I can not believe this post!  LOL Barry, our tuxedo (actually, now he lives with my daughter but I still think of him as *ours*), does the same thing … and takes it a few steps further!  I got him at about 9 months old.  He was owned by a family that had 3 kids that were awful!  It was take him in or they’d have left him on the street.  He was healthy and lovable when we got him (thank goodness).  My daughter went to school with them and knew their dad said to dump the cat.  So Barry came to live with us.  Now, about 7 years later, he has for at least the last 5 years had the most odd habbit of wanting to watch anyone who’s taking a bath and even gets in the shower if you let him!  If you won’t, he’ll howl at the door until you let him in the bathroom.  Anyone who cat-sits is told this and (so far) we’ve had no one object!  LOL  But, he takes it further.  He likes to watch people undress and gets very happy when anyone is naked around him!  Not joking, I swear!  He’s even managed to lick (if you know what I’m getting at, sorry) if you don’t catch him in time!  We joke that he’s a reincarnated Dirty Old Man!  I swear, I NEVER thought I’d read a post like that.  I was sure Barry was one-of-a-kind! (Hey, does your cat want my cat’s phone number?  I think it’s a match made in Heaven!  :-)  ) JD – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> My cat does the exact same thing!!! My cat has this wierd habit that I wondered if anyone could explain to me. The other day i had to give my cat Psycho a bath and my other cat Chompers (they are litter mates and very close) cried until we let him in the bathroom and then he was fine…  Not only this but whenever my husband or I takes a shower he comes into the bathroom and sits in the window and waits until we are done.  Anyway here is my question- does anyone know why he might do this?

Response:

It is a very common cat thing. I think some cats are "entertained" by the water.  My Gizmo does the same thing.  He’s even jump in on occasion.  Usually he waits until I am done, then he gets in the tub and chases the water droplets going down the side of the shower.  He also likes me to turn on the faucet just a little, then he drinks the dripping water or bats at it with his paw. Your cat is a watcher, he enjoys seeing nakedness. Maybe he videotapes as well? hmmm…….

Response:

My cat does this too, the older one as well as the new kitty. Its very funny, they will cry and dig outside the door until i let them in.  The tiny kitty now throws herself at the door and pounces in if the door is slightly ajar. Uses all her weight to get in, its hillarious. Maggie the baby loves to watch me, just sits and watches, she also loves the bath, and sits and dips her paw in the water as its coming out of the spout. Also they cant miss me brushing my teeth, or doing the dishes, anything involving water, they are so cute sitting near the sink staring at me, sitting side by side, one huge manx and his little pal and side kick.

Response:

When I shower my cat likes to sleep on the counter on a towel I keep there just for him.  He seems really intrigued by steam too.  The shower curtain has him baffled too I think. Paul

Don’t know why – but it’s a common cat thing; at least it’s common w/ my cats. Cathy — "Decades gliding by like Indians, time is cheap."   Paul Simon ("Ren
