Will pee but won't Poop

Question:

Our pediatrician says it’s ok to use metamucil or other fiber based product to help with constipation. We already use it in a natropathic/preventative way so the kids think they are getting something "grown-up." It will make the physical sensation much more tolerable, and there is a bit more urgency but nothing that can not be controlled. That’s probably the best thing, to insure that when the event occurs it is a positive experience. Our second (2.5 years) is in the same boat, she hides under the desk when it comes time for a BM, we ask her if she wants to use the potty and don’t make a big deal when she says no. She’ll click eventually. I have heard that some children see this step as the final step in "growing up" and opt not to so as not to loose it. Maybe some big girl incentives could help. — Bruce T. Hi!  I know this has been discussed before but since I wasn’t potty training Kelsey yet I didn’t ready any of it.  I have to say I’ve had it easy up to now.  It was easy to break her from the bottle and passy and realitively easy to get her to pee in the potty.  She has to be fully potty trained before starting preschool next fall.  So, on the day of registration (a week ago today) I started on the potty training.  It went fairly well.  I put her in the panties…just regular old panties….and told her when she had to pee she had to go to the potty.  This worked fairly well.  She’s only peed in her panties once since I started.  That’s pretty good if ya ask me.  But, the problem is I can’t get her to poop in the potty.  She still wears a diaper at night and usually poops in it before I take it off in the morning. But, if she has to poop during the day she stands there screaming and holding her butt.  She thinks it’s going to hurt.  She’s seen me poop in the potty I don’t know how many times (you know how you can’t go to the bathroom alone once ya have kids…LOL!!).  She’s seen it doesn’t hurt me.  I’ve tried explaining that it won’t hurt.  It’s just not sinking in so to speak. I’m afraid she’s gonna cause some damage to herself if she holds it too long.  Any suggestions???  This has been my only real battle and I just don’t know what to do.  She’s crying right now because she has to go and is afraid it will hurt.  HELP!!!
