Are you trying to wipe it off with your hand? Use a normal window cleaner

I believe it is due to a combination of smoking, body odours and fart gas which causes the problem – not only in Hondas’ but Toyotas’ as well. BTK

I agree. Windex is awful but the foaming glass cleaners are excellent. Contractors use it too. Get some at Home Depot. If you can find some cans of SprayWay anywhere (blue and white can), it’s excellent too.

Yes, this is true. I used to work for a factory where we made the product for auto venders. Honda must have switched to a lower molecular weight plasterzier because I did not have that problem with my 90 Honda Accord.
Response:
It is caused by UV rays oxidizing the plastic dashboard which coats the inside of the windshield. Some makes of cars suffer more than others due to the plastics used. Try using isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol followed by your normal window cleaner. Also try to clean it regularly so that it doesn’t get really thick. I’ve always thought of the problem to be attributable to the oil from our bodies. I have no idea which is the true reason, so there is no sense in arguing over which reason is the real reason. It seems that most people involved in this thread believe what you believe, so who knows, that may very well be the reason. > As for the new "anti-streak" Windex; the stuff is hopeless. This is the reason I am getting involved with this thread. I think Windex has gone to the dogs when it comes to quality. It used to be half decent several years ago, but now it seems to streak so horribly everytime I try to use it. We sometimes use foaming glass cleaner on aircraft windows and they work so great that I wonder why nobody uses it. Do any of you know of any foaming cleaners out there? The film appears to be a mix of oxidized oil and a very fine powder. Whatever it is, Windex just smears it around. A mixture of 90% Glass Plus and 10% rubbing alcohol cleans it the best of anything I’ve tried. My Tercel had a severe case of this problem so I’ve tried a lot. Another trick I did in my Tercel was to mount a thermostat controlled fan in a 2" chasis hole that used to have a plastic plug in it. At 90F it would blow air out through a hole in the bottom of the trunk. It worked fairly well and only used 60mA during the sunny part of the day.
Response:
it’s usually caused by smoking but can also be caused by pollution in the air when your windows are open. The best way to get rid of this film is you use a newspaper (you know black and white print stuff that comes off on your fingers) and wipe it across the window. That should get rid of the greasy film…dont forget to clean it again with a cloth and/or windex… lemme know how this works for you guys. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > In my Integra, Accord, and Civic, I get this strange, greasy film on the > inside of my windshield and moon roof. I’ve found that grease buildup on my windows also. I have heard that it is something leeching out of the car plastics. I give the windows a good windex about once a week when I wash the car. Once the grease buildup is very noticeable (as though the window is foggy) it takes hard work to get it off. Windex will get it off at this stage, but you need to wet the window with Windex, get it off, then re-do until it’s all gone. Doing it once in a while before it becomes noticeable is much easier. As for the new "anti-streak" Windex; the stuff is hopeless. Normal Windex streaks if the glass is warm or in the sun, but apart from that it’s fine. The "anti-streak" formula streaks noticeably in any condition. I wonder on what basis it’s called "anti-streak"?

When I worked at the hardware store, we would recommend type 0000 steel wool for cigarette smoke removal from windows in the house, I think that would be ok for a car. Someone who knows safety glass well, please step in. Is there a scratchable plastic layer on either side?

the "strange, greasy film" is the moisture expelled from yourself. its from simply exhaling, sweating, etc. through climate changes between day and night, it condensates and clings to everything. its most visible on glass because anything on it will distort your vision. over time, more will cling on and you’ll have buildup on your windshield. its the same for the rest of your interior. look at your dashboard. is there lots of lint clinged on to it? brush it off, and you’ll feel the "greasyness" too. there’s nothing much you can do. i’m not sure if this is the remedy, but i’ve noticed less "film" on my windshield by simply airing out my car (driving with my windows down before i arrive at a destination.). if you use windex, spray it, let it sit for 3 mintutes, then wipe. its takes about 3 times to get it really clean. after that, just wipe it once every two weeks. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >In my Integra, Accord, and Civic, I get this strange, greasy film on the >inside of my windshield and moon roof. I use a soft dry cloth and the film rubs right off. It’s a pain in the butt and it takes a while, though not near as long as if you used a razor blade.

Its evaporated vinyl plasticizers: very normal. The following will get it right up. Works great: Use a solution of 90% distilled water and 10% white vinegar. (9 parts water to 1 part vinegar). You won’t believe how easy it comes off. I have no clue what the gunk is but try a bug/tar remover (small amount); I use this stuff to remove pretty much everything. — P.T. 90 300ZX http://www.angelfire.com/pa/nitto/index.html

Try using straight ammonia(open all the doors and wear a respirator) and a scotchbrite or other abrasive sponge, then clean the windows with a regular glass cleaner. This is what is used to remove window tint glue from windows. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >I have that problem too, but I noticed that I had the same problem in all my >other cars. Do either of you smoke cigarettes in your car?
Response:
I don’t smoke or eat greasy food in cars… The problem was REALLY bad when the cars were brand new but has gotten better so I do believe the dashboard evaporation theory a little bit. However, I’m still looking for a good solution. I wonder what they use at dealerships and detailing shops. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->>In my Integra, Accord, and Civic, I get this strange, greasy film on the >>inside of my windshield and moon roof.
