Cats/birds/nightmares

Question:

(closely) but will bnot boterh the U2 since the U2 did the following (about 1 month after I brought him home)  He was on the floor, let out a terrific SCREECH, puffed up and ran screaming through the house chasing cats.  Boy were the cats suprised!  They haven’t bothered him since.  They will watch the CAG walk across the floor, but she’s "played" with their tails a few times, so they don’t come to close.   Above all, the cats/birds are supervised when out together.         Put the birds back were you had them and get a squirt bottle and spray the bajebbes out of you cat when ever he pounces on the cage. That and a bite from the birds should teach him to leave them alown. Budgies can draw blood you know. My cat doesnt mess with the birds except when there in the cage and she tries to play peek aboo with them. I think she like to be niped by the tiels. — Elf-Kin -Every inch of me that is not carnivorous is 100% vegitarian.

Dear Janet,      Maybe you would feel a lot better of you just kept the birds in cages and let them out when you are home to supervise them all. A lot of time our fears tell us that we are doing something against our better judgement. I think you would feel better if you tried this.      I know I had nightmares about earthquakes and a high rise I am in toppling over, in slow motion, for the past two years. I happen to be moving to a little cottage ( shack!) that is really light ( looking), and I feel relieved already. If I had to be in something when it collapses, I would choose this new place! I bet my nightmares will stop, because I don’t feel concerned about it anymore. You might just give that a try…see it it works!  Lauren

I see a lot of questions about keeping cats and birds.  I have seen it work out in some cases, and as a matter of fact, a local, well-respected bird shop has a free-roaming cat living in the store, at least during the day.  I also have two friends whose cats ignore their caged birds. However, in my case, I have small birds – various types of parakeets and cockatiels.  I also have (currently) four cats.  My birds live in a closed off room and are uncaged. I have had a recurring nightmare over the years that either the cats get in the birdroom or the birds get out of the room.  I HATE this dream!  I installed an extra lock on the door which helped my subconcious and reduced the nightmare frequency to only every few months or so.  My only real-life fear is that a burglar/vandal will break in some day and leave the door open.  I don’t think I could survive that. Am I the only one with this nightmare?  It’s the only nightmare I ever have – my other dreams are harmless.  I would never part with my cats (sort of my substitute kids), so I guess I have to live this way to keep my small birds, which bring me much happiness. Just curious if I was the only cat/bird person with a troubled psyche.
