Question:
To whomever sent me the information about our dog jasper thank you very much. I am going to try what you had mentioned, with jasper and I hope that it will work. Do you have any idea how I can get jasper more use to our and even protective of our baby -son (Eric)especially when strangers are From Andrea George
Response:
I wouldn’t recommend you encourage a dog to be protective of your child. Firstly, a Min Pin isn’t exactly going to stop anyone who intends harm. And secondly, what about when your child is old enough to have young friends over? I’m sure you don’t want the dog snapping at them when they run and play and shout as kids tend to do….. — Andrea Stone Saorsa Basenjis "The average dog is a nicer person than the average person." — Andrew A. Response:
Wish you’d share it with us… A lot of rpdb regulars don’t like to post their training information publicly on this forum anyMOORE because they expect their advice may receive criticism from more informed trainers. I’d be cautious following advice that may be so questionable that the author themselves, is afraid to be know in association with their questionable advice. A word to the wise, is sufficient. My husband Shawn has had jasper(the dog) for 3-4 years now.I have been with him for 2 years . Shawn used to put jay (nickname for jasper)in the basement when he would work for about 10- 12 hours a day. Of coarse the dog would relieve himself when he needed to go Well since I have moved in either one of us is usually home if not both of us ,jay does not do this as much as he used to ,but since I had our son he has been starting to do this again. How can I get jasper to stop urinating and defecating on the floor ? If we can not get jay to stop by the time eric (our son ) is crawling we may have to find jay a new home. Please if you have any ideas that might help let me know. We are at our wits end because no matter what we try (telling him no,telling him that he is a bad dog for this, using the paper if we have to )Nothing is been working. Feel free to contact From Andrea George

It’s time to start housebreaking over from the beginning. I like the crate-training method. Get a book from the library, or the bookstore. Seriously consider some obedience training classes. The dog needs to be put on a regular schedule. Figure out what that schedule is and stick to it. It is probably a result of a changed schedule that caused the problem. Dogs like routines… it’s good practice, babies like a regular schedule too. That means a time for walking and exercise. A time for play. A time for training. Nap times. Time to go out. Time to eat. Make a schedule that works for you and your dog. Stick to it. BTW: Don’t leave the food out all the time, a regular time to eat is the anchor.
