Question:
Is there any chance that while on the Disney trip, he received reminders (if nothing else, he went when you went)? Could he be trying to gain attention (at Disney, he had lots of attention, but at home, he’s not the center of attention all the time)? Has anything changed lately (baby coming, friend moved away, new bedroom furniture, etc.)? Does he feel comfortable taking off and putting back on his clothing? Could a certain style of pant be more difficult for him to work with? I’m obviously trying to think of anything that might be affecting him. My younger daughter did this, but with her, it was just a matter of getting overly busy and not wanting to be interrupted. All we had to do was sit down and talk with her about it, let her know it was not acceptable, and then offer her reminders. At times we did have to be more insistent (like when she claimed to not need to go, but was doing the "gotta-go-real-bad dance"
. But once she knew we weren’t going to allow that behavior anymore, she started going just fine again. Of course, it could be nothing more than he’s just being a little kid. Hopefully, this stage will pass soon. Just remember… they all pee in the potty by collage.

Thanks for your input Vicki! Well I thought that, but I think it’s a bit wierd that we were in Disney a couple of weeks ago, and if there’s a bigger distraction for kids than Disney World, I’d like to see it! He was fine there. He was trained May 1998 and had only one or two accidents between May 1998 and say December 1998. Then he had a couple of days where he would just pee in his pants, out of the blue, and it stopped. Then he was fine until yesterday. He wasn’t doing anything particularly interesting or out of the ordinary, but it is a possibility. I hope it jsut goes away again like it did last time. It’s very frustrating for us and for him as well. Hi, Just a followup with the latest. A while after I wrote the last post, he peed again but only a little and he finished in the potty. We went out to dinner and he peed inb the restaurant bathroom while were there, and then he went again when we got home. Just a bit ago, my husband discovered that he pooped in his pants as well. I asked him if he could tell that he had to go to the bathroom before it came out in his pants, and he said yes. When I asked him why he didn’t go in the bathroom, he just started crying. He has had a cold and conjuctivitis but nothing major. I am wondering if perhaps there is something emotionally upsetting him or if he might be physcially sick. The only thing I can think of on the emotional side is that his little sister decided it was time to start using the potty.. so I wonder if it might have something to do with that.. because he’s got a real "She’s a baby and I’ma big boy… " complex. I am going to call his pediatrician tomorrow anyhow. Cyndi – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Hi, > Wondering if anyone can give some advice. My son was 3 when he was potty > trained last May. Could he just be so busy being a kid that he forgets to listen to his body tell him it’s time to go potty? Try helping him by setting up "potty times" similar to how a preschool works. Because of the structure in preschool, there are normally scheduled times in which all the children are sent to the bathroom. This may be why he doesn’t have accidents there. The children aren’t asked if they need to go; they are simply told, "Okay, it’s time to go to the potty!" just as you might tell the family "Okay, dinner’s ready!" Pick a few times during the day to tell him it’s potty time (just before or after eating, just before leaving to go somewhere, etc.). It’s probably best to not try while he’s in the middle of play time because he won’t want to stop with whatever he’s playing with (then potty time becomes an interruption). Look for transition times when he’s just finished something and about to start something else. I hope this helps! Take Care! Vicki Surratt Proud Mom of Kathy (almost 6) and Jenny (9)!

Hi, Wondering if anyone can give some advice. My son was 3 when he was potty trained last May. He turned 4 two months later in July. He wanted nothing to do with the potty for the longest time, and would probably still be in diapers today if we had not tried this. We tried the pull up pants, and he would just go in those as if they were diapers, so no luck there. One day, I bought him a package of Underoos and brought them home. Fearing the worst, I put them on him and voila! he was potty trained. He peed in his pants once, and that was it. He has been perfectly potty trained since with barely an accident. About two months ago, one day at my parent’s house he peed in his pants twice for no apparent reason. Then he did it again a couple of times over the next couple of days. Then it stopped. We were in Disney World two weeks ago, and he peed once in his pants, but it was because we were on the shuttle bus and there was no place to go.. he didn’t make it to the hotel in time. I can understand that. Today, he was out with my husband, and he peed his pants again. They were out doing errands and he never mentioned it or anything.. just peed his pants. I have no idea what’s going on… there doesn’t seem to be an evident reason for it. Anyone experience similar? He will be 5 in July, and goes to Pre-School 3 days per week.
