Scratching around her food bowl

Question:

Hello everyone I have been reading all your postings and want to know if anyone can tell me why my little Molly keeps on doing this thing:  when I put her food down and she starts to eat, she will suddenly stop and gently scratch the floor and even the wall.  She just reaches over and rakes at the wall, not very hard at all, almost like the way she hides her poos.   Then she resumes eating (she doesn’t even move her bum from the spot!).   I did think that it might have been the noise from the fridge which is next to her eating place, but even after I move her bowl she will still scratch around her food!  It’s hard to tell whether she has behaved like this from kittenhood as I have only had her since Xmas and she is 4 years old (or so the vets think). The other thing she does in chin rub cups of coffee, which is also a bit puzzling.  Any suggestions here? btw, Molly has been the best thing ever.  My other cat went missing in October last year, and I spent weeks advertising, knocking on peoples doors and frantically searching for him.  He wasn’t the friendliest of cats because he’d been bullied by kids in his previous home, but I loved him to bits.  Anyway, someone called one night with a cat to his description, and of course I was there in under 5 minutes.  This little petite tabby was in her greenhouse (similar but not the same as Rocky), with a completely fractured back paw and tiny little face with big eyes.   the moment I knelt down to look at her she meowed and head butted my face and we just hit it off.  She is the complete opposite to Rocky , the most affectionate cat I have ever met.  When I am talking on the phone she will jump up and bury her head under my chin , and occasionally she’ll take a very light bite at my wrist if I’m not doing my duty!  She is the best thing in my whole life and waking up with her little pink paws on my nose has to be the highlight of the day!  I miss her loads when i am at work. wish we were chasing birds and harassing the local felines right at this moment! All cats do this, and as someone said to me, "comical, ain’t it?" They’re just "covering up" their food to protect it from all of you who are dying to eat it. It’s a leftover from their not-very-distant wild ancestors. As for chin rubbing anything of yours, she is marking it with her scent to make it a part of her territory. Cats generally like to claim each and every thing in their litttle universe. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Hello everyone > I have been reading all your postings and want to know if anyone can > tell me why my little Molly keeps on doing this thing:  when I put her > food down and she starts to eat, she will suddenly stop and gently > scratch the floor and even the wall.  She just reaches over and rakes at > the wall, not very hard at all, almost like the way she hides her poos. > Then she resumes eating (she doesn’t even move her bum from the spot!). > I did think that it might have been the noise from the fridge which is > next to her eating place, but even after I move her bowl she will still > scratch around her food!  It’s hard to tell whether she has behaved like > this from kittenhood as I have only had her since Xmas and she is 4 > years old (or so the vets think).
