Question:
If you like, I’ll place your story on a bulliten (sp?) board, it’s Acmepet. I’ll keep my eyes open, though I live far from Quebec. Emily Carroll
Response:
I am posting this in hopes the word will spread about this despicable deed: I am sending this to the list with the remote hope that someone will find our girl. A 2 year old bitch of my breeding was stolen a week and a half ago our of her kennel at her owners’ home, north of Montreal, Quebec. It has taken the owners until now to contact me, which has given the monster who took her a long lead time. The whole story is as follows: The owners, Milt & Areti Vadrahanis, have 2 malamutes, dog and bitch. The way their kennel is set up, you have to pass through Crusher’s (the male) kennel to get into Rory’s (the bitch) kennel. Areti was visiting her mother down the street when a neighbor called and told her to come home immediately, that something was wrong with her dog. She came home to find Crusher on the floor of his kennel, in convulsions. She immediately took him to the vet clinic, to find out he had been poisoned with antifreeze. Thankfully, Crusher did survive the poisoning, although he was at the vet clinic for a full week. When Areti returned home from the clinic, she ran to the kennel, only to find that Rory was gone. The kennel was locked when she left, as was the yard. Whoever took her was watching Areti when she left the house to go to the clinic. Whoever took Rory knew she was a bitch (they didn’t want the dog – they only wanted him out of the way). Last spring, Rory had an accidental litter and there was a man (undesirable) who came to see the puppies. When he was informed that no bitch puppies were available (he wanted to breed), he said that he wanted Rory. He was informed that she was not for sale. BTW, Rory is due in season now. Areti has been to the police, but they were most uncooperative. They didn’t even take a police report, and she didn’t know that they had to. She has since gone back to the police and threatened them with going to the local news station, and they have taken a report but are not treating it seriously. They maintain that she probably ran away and will return when she gets bored with her freedom. This is definitely not the case – Rory was very happy there and never even attempted to get of the kennel, let alone kennel and yard (5 ft kennel fence, 6 ft privacy fence on the yard). Rory is microchipped – number 2000366842. The chip is implanted just above her withers. She is 24 inches at the shoulder, dark grey and white in color, with a full mask. At this time, she is out of coat. She is extremely people friendly and will come to anyone who calls her. She will also jump into anyone’s car. The person we suspect is French speaking, and lives in Quebec. We know nothing else of him. Please, if the person who took her sees this message, we just want out little girl back – NO QUESTIONS ASKED. This message is being posted to both the Malamute list and Showdogs-L. Rory may have ended up anywhere. If anyone has any information (even if it’s a dead end), please contact me or Milt & Areti. Please feel free to call collect. If you contact me by e-mail, please send it directly to me, as I am on digest, and therefore don’t get my mail until quite a bit later.
