Swedish finish floors

Question:

Depends on where you live.  Around here, floor refinishing costs about $2.50 per square foot.  As for doing a swedish finish, you’ll just have to ask.  I don’t think its particularly difficult (for someone who does this for a living). ben

We opted for Glitsa (which is a Swedish finish) when we had our floors sanded and refinished before moving into our house.  It was about 25 cents extra per square foot, I think, and worth every penny, IMHO.   We paid about $3.25/sq. ft. for the sanding and refinishing.  The floors are cherry and were badly cupped, and this may have affected the price.  We also live in a fairly high-cost area, and we had a tight schedule for when we needed to have the floors done.  And only two local companies (both with top-notch reputations) did the Glitsa finish.  What I’m saying is that I think we paid top dollar for the job.   With the Glitsa the fumes were very strong for several days.  Living things CANNOT be in the house without respirators.   I love the finish.  The floors are beautiful.  I have a friend with a farmhouse on a working farm that has hardwood in the kitchen.  She had it finished with Glitsa about 10 years ago.  That floor takes tremendous abuse and still looks spectacular.   Of course, if you take the carpets up and the floor looks fine, why not just enjoy the floor as it is? Good luck, Sarah W.   – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> We recently learned that our home has hardwoods hidden under the ugly > carpet. Just a heads up — there’s a chance if your floors have been carpeted for a long time that the floors are already in fair/good condition. We had wall-to-wall carpeting in all four bedrooms and we ripped up two rooms’ worth and found good conditioned hard wood floors.  There’s some scratching and a little wear in one of the areas, but for the most part, they don’t need to be refinished right away.
