You certainly hit a button! Obviously, parents that lack control over their children love uniforms. It places the burden of responsibility for enforcement on the school, and takes responsibility away from of the parent. No wonder it is so popular among those parents who do nothing to support the curriculum of the school, who only focus their attention on such an issue totally unrelated to real educational concerns. -ted "Few things are harder to put up with than the annoyance of a good example." –Mark Twain This space for rent, see http://www.nyiq.net/~ted x-no-archive: yes NOINDEX

I propose that school systems could instead make their uniforms (at least for boys) those brown work uniforms (like the janitors wear). They are heavy duty and wear quite well, are not high priced, many brands are made in the USA. And best of all, the boys could stuff the pants cuffs inside their black combat boots and look just like the Hitler Jungen of the 1930’s. I would venture a guess that in my local school system, the children of the well-to-do would somehow accessorize their uniforms, or simply have more uniforms, so that they would still be able to easily differentiate themselves from the rest of us peasants. In addition, in our snobby, uppercrust, resort community, parents can go to the excellent second hand store we have here, and very nicely outfit their children at a fraction of what even the most modest uniform would cost. Finally, I agree with statement made by many that most uniforms are being worn in situations where there never was any crime problem before the uniforms were required.
