Would This filter system work?

06/01/97 Robert, This will work, but it will be difficult to clean.  The easiest to clean biofilters are upflow.  Try swapping your inlet pipe and outlet pipe and move the 3" free space to the bottom, put the medium pea gravel on top of the 3" free space, put the fine pea gravel on top of the medium pea gravel, and leave the 3" furnace filter on top of the fine pea gravel.   Heavy solids end up at the bottom of your container, so why make them travel from the top to the bottom.  Let them start at the bottom and settle on the bottom without clogging your filter media.  As you have it now, your heavy solids will work their way through the media and go right back into your pond via the outlet hole.  If you add a bottom drain and a sloped sides around the bottom drain, it will be very easy to clean your filter. P.S.
