KK brought to your attention some excellent points to investigate. I would like you to ask her breeder about the history of this pup and background of others in the pedigree re. any unusual behaviours. I would also like to know whether she does this in other homes or just yours. What if she is on a lead. Does she still do it or try to? Finding another dog friend for her and take them both on a walk through the house might work. A local trainer should be able to find a nice friendly dog with whom she could work. Now if she only exhibits this behaviour in your home, then have you not wondered if you have a ghost which she has seen but not you? I have lived in a couple of homes who had a ghost and animals seem to be able to pick up their presence more readily than many humans. Liz

Hello all, I was hoping someone in this news group might be able to shed some light on a problem we have been having with one of our dogs.  She is a female bullmastiff just over 2 years old.  She is demonstrating some very strange behaviors. The house that we own is a one level ranch that has a long hallway in the middle of the house connecting all the rooms.  She will not walk down this hallway head first.  She will back up the entire length of the hallway and she insists on backing her way into any room that she enters.  And will even back her way through the entire kitchen to move from one room into the hallway.  At times she avoids the middle of the kitchen and will move the kitchen table and chairs in order to stay close to the wall.  It really saddens us to see her exhibit this type of behavior.  She is a wonderful dog otherwise.  It is almost as if she is frightened of something.  It just keeps getting worse and worse.  It used to be only the kitchen that she backed through.. now it includes the hallway and into several bedrooms. If anyone knows of an animal psychologist or behaviorist in the new england area (preferably Connecticut) please let me know. We would really like to help her with this if we can. Thank you DT

Animal psychologists…… are they licensed?  Do they work any better than human psychologists? If it were me, and I am very sad reading this, I would walk with your dog in reverse but speak in a happy excited tone.  I assume no one has mistreated your canine.  Also, make sure the areas are well lighted. How are your doggie’s eyes?  Have you seen a vet for a check up?  Stay close, your best friend need you now more than ever.  Does your dog have another dog to relate to?
