Question:
I am scheduled to stay at the Crystal Cay Villas on the small island by the same name next to Paradise Island over Thanksgiving and have heard they stink. Has anyone visited this place in the last few months? Did Floyd really tear this place up? Help!!! This is my dream vacation after a grueling 5 years in college! I don’t want it to be a bust! Before you buy.
Response:
Isn’t it too late to do anything about it if what you have heard about the place is true? I went to Nassau at Xmas time last year and booked a room that turned out to be pretty bad. It was at the Best Western British Colonial Hotel which was under renovation at the time I booked the room. Renovations were scheduled to be completed before my arrival. Though I tried my best to get up-to-date information about the place from travel agents, the Internet, and this newsgroup, it turned out that renovations had stalled and the place was closed except for a few rooms in one wing. (This I finally found out by calling the hotel and asking whether renovations were completed.) My unrenovated room had no hot water in the shower because the valve was rusted and there were other inconveniences. Though the room was not worth the rate I was paying for it, I still had a great time in Nassau. Should your villa at Crystal Cay turn out to be less than you had hoped I think you still can mange to enjoy yourself. There are a bunch of shacks that serve as bars, restaurants and food stalls right where the road to Crystal Cay meets the main coastal road. I had a terrific fried red snapper there. And there weren’t a lot of tourists; this seems to be a place where local folk go in the evenings. And a short walk from that place you find an old fort, a beautiful city park, and the zoo (home of the marching flamingos!). The walk into town from this area is nice, too. And you can catch a boat to the docks in downtown Nassau (or to Paradise Island, maybe) from Crystal Cay. The Underwater Observatory at Crystal Cay is a nice way to spend an hour or two. Have fun. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > I am scheduled to stay at the Crystal Cay Villas > on the small island by the same name next to > Paradise Island over Thanksgiving and have heard > they stink.
