Golf vacation

Question:

I have accumulated some air miles on my credit card and I am looking to use them for flying to the Caribbean staying at either Wyndham El Conquistador on Puerto Rico or Wyndham Rose Hall at Montego Bay, Jamaica. Is there any one on here that has stayed at either one?  Need some feed back and comparison between the two.  Do they meet you at the airport with a courtesy van or what?  I assume we can bring  our own clubs. Any info that you can supply to help me make a decision would be appreciated.  Not looking for a "swinging" place just swinging on the golf course.  We are retired people looking for pampering. We have stayed at Wyndham Rose Hall in May of ‘99 and enjoyed it, but while it is a nice place, you will be far from pampered and if you are not going the all-inclusive route, golf there can get fairly pricey.  If I remember correctly green fees were about $80/round, mandatory cart was $40 and Caddie was about $12, so your looking at close to a $150 bill per round on a course that is nice, but not $150 nice in my book.  Even with green fees included it ran me about $60 or so for the "mandatory" items which is about double what I pay here at home for a round (without cart and caddie) on a comparable course, but what the hell, you’re on vacation, right?  If pampering is what you are looking for and you want to go the all-inclusive route, you would probably be better off at one of the Lido properties, and if golf is a must, then maybe Grand Lido in Negril or one of the Sandals properties in Ocho Rios.  Also, the back 9 at Rose Hall has been closed for sometime due to renovation and is supposed to open sometime this spring, but then again I believe it was supposed to be open late in the summer of 2000. I don’t know what the delay is, other that the typical Jamaican "soon come"…lol.  They have been sending their golfing customers down the street to the new Ritz, but while I hear it’s a nice course, you’re looking at about $210/round if you bring your own clubs.  Too much money for this guy. The other course in the immediate area, Ironwood, was in shambles the last time we drove by.  I heard they are now affiliated with SuperClubs (was Sandals).  Hopefully they will demand the course be kept in a little better shape than it was in when it was in-between affiliations, maybe not.  I’m sure that is the reason Sandals dumped them.  Feel free to email me with any other questions regarding Rose Hall.
