Cig Smell/Hotels use "Bomb"

Question:

I have heard that hotels/motels use a "bomb" to get rid of cigarette smoke smell in their rooms.  Apparently they set it off an leave it for a couple of days and the smell is gone.  Has anyone heard of these and know where one might purchase them. Thanks jackie

Having been in the hotel industry for ten years, I know of only a couple of ways to mask cigarette smells, nothing seems to completely eliminate it short of removing all soft goods and shampooing the carpet thoroughly, cleaning the walls, cleaning the a/c… etc. There are two methods used to mask the smell, the first is an ozone machine which you leave on in the room for 15-20 minutes and it creates an ozone smell, much like after a thunderstorm, and the plates in the machine supposedly attract the cigarette odors. The other method is a mist product hooked up to an industrial strength type fan. You put the liquid in the canister, turn on the fan and the mist sprays out all over the room, again this takes about 15 minutes and masks the odor. Both these methods are very good a temporarily removing smoke odors, for instance you have a smoking room as your last room available and the reservation calls for a non smoking room. You can pull all the linens, etc, and ozone or mist the room and then re clean it and it will freshen the room. However the smell is still in the carpet, curtains, a/c filter etc and that will require a deep cleaning. The cigarette companies, I think Phillip Morris, publish a bunch of materials that explain how to convert a smoking room to a non smoking room. The ozone and mist machines are usually sold by small vendors, I have seen them at flea markets and home improvement shows. The sales people also have a tendency to show up often at the hotels. You might want to call a hotel in your area and speak with the executive housekeeper or chief engineer. Hope this was helpful. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >I have heard that hotels/motels use a "bomb" to get rid of cigarette >smoke smell in their rooms.  Apparently they set it off an leave it for >a couple of days and the smell is gone.  Has anyone heard of these and >know where one might purchase them. >Thanks >jackie
