Ken is OK – tornadoes in TX

Question:

Hi ken Rebecca is right, you ought to call your doc.  If he finds nothing, then all you’ve wasted is your time.  Better to be safe. Glad to hear you missed all the storms.  It was on the news over here (Scotland) and it looked awful scary. Best wishes. Sorry I’m late with this but Mike’s in the hospital.  I heard that they’re gonna change the accident reports here (Charlotte, NC) to have a place that says if there is a phone in the car and if it’s in use at the time of the accident.  Wonder how they could include makeup and reading to that?? Ken, I had mentioned in the other post "REQUEST" that you may have bleeding due to the seat belt. I saw that problem in ER when I was a student nurse.  Usually the smell is extremely bad with lots of blood if it is higher up.  Did you only have a lap belt on?  No shoulder belt? I would at least alert your doctor and see what she says.  It can definitely be a result of the accident…although it could be the ulcers too. love,   Bonnie

Ken, I was so sorry to hear about your wreck. For some reason, I didn’t see the original  post that told what  had happened, till I read this last one of yours, I thought you were in the storm and got hurt. I’m glad you weren’t in the tornados.. They hit too close to us for comfort. About 25 to 30 miles away.. I hope you get better soon.  Heres ya a big ol’ Texas hug, from one Texans  to  another..(((((((((((((Ken))))))))) — Please remove snkisses before replying.

Response:

Ken- The blood could be from the seat belt.  I have seen some magazine articles about how the placement of seatbelts is very important.  I guess if it doesn’t fall across your hipbones (extremely low), then it can cause damage in an accident.  I still find myself adjusting the belt often as I am driving, since it tends to "ride up" while I drive. I agree about makeup in the car.  I have a sister who insists on putting on mascara while she drives.  One time she was a passenger in my car and had one of those silly eyelash curlers, and I hit a bump in the road, which coincided with her sqeezing the curler together.  Needless to say, she lost quite a few eyelashes from that one!!!   I hope that you are okay and it turns out to be something that can be easily taken care of.  You are in my thoughts…. Be well- Tracy my homepage: http://home.talkcity.com/ParadiseDr/goodboie/index.html  : )  smile – it makes people wonder what you’re up to!

Response:

Ken: Not to scare you, but I think you should call your doctor about the blood — ASAP. As I remember from my accident about 15 years ago — the bruises from my seat belt didn’t show up for about 4-5 days. They almost looked like a "tan line" as you could tell right where my seatbelt was. BTW, I had a physical exam about a week after the accident and my PCP at the time gave a "bruise by bruise" description to the insurance company — I hope yours does the same. Sorry you are feeling so crummy — eat a cookie — it will help! Rebecca :-) who TOTALLY agrees with you regarding cell phones, putting on makeup, reading, necking, etc while driving a moving vehicle!

Hi all, First of all, I’d like to thank Rebecca for the cookies (and no, I haven’t even opened them YET).  Yes, thank God that I live far enough east and north that I was quite a ways from the horrendous tornados that hit Fort Worth. Even despite my problems, my thoughts and prayers go out to those that lost a loved one, or were injured, or lost their home. I wish I could say I felt better today, but I can’t.  I did see the doc and she said that it’s going to get worse before it gets better.  She did give me a shot of Toradol? to help with the inflammation and said that if I am not seeing improvement in 72 hours to get back in to see her. I’m not meaning to gross anyone out, however, here is an open question for anyone.  I just had my first bowel movement since the accident (yesterday at 8:50am CST) and the stool is dark, which I know could be due to the fact that I have chronic gastric ulcers bleeding some, however, with that came (and I’m guessing) about 1/4 cup of raw blood as it discolored the water to almost like a cherry koolaid.  I am telling myself that other than some abdominal, neck, and back pain, I feel ok meaning with the Crohn’s, so I figure I will wait and see what the next bowel movement is like before going to the ER.  I will contact both my PCP and GI doc’s tomorrow morning unless I go to the ER tonight.  But my question is has anyone else been rear ended and the lap belt do any damage to their intestines?  I don’t have any bruises yet or they haven’t surfaced yet, and the lady wasn’t going (my guess) over 20-30 mph and I was stopped. By the way, after all this, I ask anyone, women and men alike, to not put on make up or read or talk on their cell phone while driving as this lady was putting rouge(sp?) on and she’s lucky she wasn’t using an eyeliner or she could of poked her eye.  We all have enough health problems that we don’t need to add to them.  That is just my own personal plea as I don’t like or want to see anyone get hurt regardless. Sorry about the rambling, but I wanted to thank everyone for their well wishes and hugs, as I can’t tell you how much that means to me, as I can only hug Taylor so hard and she only licks back. Again, thank you for your well wishes, thoughts and prayers as I could of been hurt a lot worse without my seatbelt and the fact that the rear bumper took the majority of the shock.
