Need New Kitchen Floor

Question:

Black Stains <usually> equal a mold problem. If you douse them with bleach, and they are back in a few days, you have an ongoing problem. Suspect you have hollows under the slab from the old leak, and ground water ponding there. (also suspect the leak wasn’t a new prob, and the new flooring was to cover it up.) Plumber that redid your pipes should have mentioned that. Assuming the bleach doesn’t help, at this point, you need expert help (not a flooring store). If you are lucky, regrading or something outside to redirect the water may do it. If the slab is undermined, they may need to drill holes and pump something down there to fill the void. Don’t bother having a new floor installed until you rule out mold infestation. Kinda suprised they let you do that kind of replumbing in a condo- usually major service changes have to be signed off by the associations architect or engineer. Call up a big plumbing or concrete finishing company, and get they name of who they use for the detective work on problem sites. aem sends…

I bought a condo two years ago that had just redone the kitchen floor with Linoleum.  I had a slab leak three months after moving in near the front door. Rather than fix it, I had the whole place replumbed and all water is above ground now. Problem: my kitchen floor has a large black stains in the middle of it and similar stains in the bathroom and foyer.  I can only assume that the lineoleum was damaged over water that is or was sitting underneath.  None of the cleaning materials I’ve tried can do anything to improve the look.  I suppose I need a new floor. I know absolutely nothing about home improvement and would never try the do-it-yourself approach.  Should I contact a contracter or buy from a flooring store or some place like Home Depot or Expo and use their installation services?  I want something that will look nice but be easy to keep clean (I’m a slob and don’t sweep and mop much).  I’m thinking of tile or a wood laminante.  I’m wondering how long it will take to complete the job also.  I hate the idea of having workers in my house – and I would probably take time off of work to be home while it’s being done.  I’d also like to avoid any process that creates horrible glue fumes. I’m not sure I really even know the best questions to ask and would appreciate any relevant input from all the experienced folks here. Thanks.
