Question:
Hi – Reading the thread about kitchen exhaust fans, range hoods, etc. – my question is: is the noise of the fan really worth it? I would use mine to exhaust smells from grilling meats and fish, from roasting meats, from frying smells. I also think I’d use it to exhause excess steam from big pots of boiling water. I like to roast chicken a lot and hate the smell in the house afterward. But will the noise be so awful, I’ll hate to turn on the fan? I’d like to do more grilling, but the smoke is atrocious. But will I hate to turn on the fan? What are your experiences? TIA – lizard

Noise is not as annoying as smoke inthe eyes and strong smells throughout the house. I suppose it’s a personal issue – it’s not a chainsaw, just a fan. Matt Eagles may soar, but Turkeys don’t get sucked into jet engines.

Our solution was to get an industrial strength fan and mount it on the roof. Works great; limited noise.

Some units have the fan itself mounted at the exit vent, basically outside. Compared to having it right at the stove, I’m sure it’s much quieter, but I can’t verify this from experience (yet). ~~~~~~ Jeff G ~~~~~~ – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Hi – > Reading the thread about kitchen exhaust fans, range hoods, etc. – my > question is: is the noise of the fan really worth it? Sounds good, but WHERE did you buy it and how much did it COST. The only place in my area that I have found SO FAR said that name brands like vent-a-hood with remote fan STARTED at $1000!

Mine isn’t commercial strength. It’s a Nutone WF35. I can’t yet report on its performance as I haven’t finished my wiring. I paid ~$200 for it; then learned I could have bought it over the net for $165. Got to Yahoo and search for "Nutone".
