Question:
>This is a little off the subject, however,
To get this thing back ON subject, I will add another one. Morgen (25 mo) is very tactile with her classmates. It seems most every time she says something she punctuates it with a pushing slapping gesture. Picture Joan Rivers saying: "can we talk" and you might get the idea. She does this even when she has nothing to be frustrated or angry about. At school, they try and drill the kids to use "gentle touches." Morgen is the happiest, funniest kid in class, but she is just too pushy for their taste. Some kids are getting knocked around. Well, at home she has to keep up with her older rough-housing sister. But sometimes when Morgen gets too rough in response, she will immediately say: "just pretending" like she only faked a real blow. We tell her: "No, that was really hitting. We don’t hit." (Maybe less time with Looney ‘Toons would help with the pretend violence). This is serious with the school. We have to go to a meeting tomorrow. We need to crack down at home on every little thing until she gets the idea. Yesterday, she was sitting on my lap and she pushed/slapped her sister (barely enough to even bother her) and I immediately said: "Did you hit Maddy? We don’t hit! Hitting hurts. I don’t want to play with a girl who hits!" I put her down bluntly and walked to another room. I ignored her cries for a few minutes. Then she came in the kitchen and hugged my legs as I prepared dinner. She didn’t hit anybody for the rest of the night, although I’m sure I’ll hear she smacked someone at school today. If I am consistent and unrelenting about this, I think she’ll get the point before she gets thrown out of school. I don’t think smacking her back would be as effective at getting her to stop hitting the kids at school. – Ron Low Levity is the dearth of gravity. Brevity is the height of clarity.
