Question:
Sorry to hear about your birds, we share your grief. Do have your kitchen checked, could have been a gas leak. You might also want to make sure your illness is not related. Good luck to you.

>hen, I looked behind my coffee maker & there Little Wood laid
could your coffeemaker have a Teflon-coated heating pad and could that heating pad have malfunctioned and overheated thereby releasing Teflon fumes? Teflon poisoning is quick and deadly to birds.

My brother in law had a similar experience with a cockatiel. It was fine when he went to work in the morning, and when he got home it was dead. Upon doing some asking around he found out that several birds in the area had died unexpectedly and suddenly- and that there had been a chemical spill in the area. Apparently it was a related incident. Other than something like that, could your birds have gotten into some pesticides? It is really sad when we lose a pet. I have lost three little budgies in the last 4 years. They are so cute and precious and full of life and personality that when they die it is a real disaster. Though nothing can replace the ones you lost, when the time is right get another Bird (s) and you will find it brings back the enjoyment. Dear Marcia, I only have one cockateil, and I was heartbroken when the first one I had, died. I know how that loss feels. You give them all of your heart, and now they are gone. Please think of the good times you had with your precious birds. It was a blessing to have them. Let me offer you my sincere condolences. If I can help in any way, please let me know. Roxanne

Get any gas appliances checked for leaks and also carbon monoxide too, this invisible, non smelling gas will kill. You mentioned you’re sick at the moment, I believe that carbon monoxide poisoning symptoms can also resemble the flu (I may be wrong). Check all your gas appliances ASAP !!!! I hope someone can help you figure out what happened to your beloved babies so it won’t happen again, but bless your aching heart, fill that void with at least one more bird. It’ll heal faster…I know. Good luck Jo Jo and Joe -Horses and Art

Given that you found both birds dead in the kitchen makes me think of a couple of possibilities. A tiny gas leak in your stove, such as an unlit pilot or the small amount of gas that leaks when you turn on a burner might have been the cause. Another possibility, since you mentioned you prepared your breakfast, is the poisonous gas given off by an overheated teflon pan.
