O/T Sisters of Mercy file (Janet)

Thanks Toucanldy and everyone else that sent me the link.  Thankfully, the computer did not find any virus so I was lucky this time.  I’ll know better next time I see a funky link. Deb

Response:

A good way to help you protect against a virus is to make sure your e-mail program dumps your attachments in a seperate file that you make yourself. That’s because most virusses look for a "Windows connection" in order for them to work. If you have made a seperate file, and thus no "Windows connection", it has no where to go and it just sits there. Also if you have made a file like that, you know where to find your attachments and it is easy to look what’s in there and easy to delete. I’m not saying it’s foolproof, but it will help a lot, just in case you opened a virus. I hope I explained this well. PJ

Yes, that was a virus I caught.  It automatically send itself to everyone in the address book.  I’m so sorry if anyone opened the files and caught the virus.  Below is a link that will delete the virus and restore your computer. And, yes, Ruby is doing well. tml Janet

I wish I had seen this before I opened up the attachment which corrupted the hard drive on my pc at work.  It took the  MIS people half the morning to fix it.  The sender’s name was female said something like "good morning, how are you" and then wanted help with "the attached" and something about talking to me later to discuss.  It made no sense so I figured it had been sent in error. I trashed it but it corrupted the C drive anyway.  It was too new to be picked up by the Vshield or McAffee or whatever they have here.  And then it had the gall to tell me in the error message that it is sircam.  Nice.

It’s the virus that is sending the email, the person may not even know their computer is infected. Charles

I wish I had your common sense Mamabird.  I did open it, thinking it was from Janet, but my computer seems okay.   I did think it was strange since she never emailed me before either.   How do you know if the computer got the virus? Deb

I got it too, TCL, except the subject line said "Books for William." McAfee didn’t detect a virus, but I deleted it anyway without opening the attachment and blocked sender because it just "didn’t feel right."
