Western Pacific Housing of California: good or bad builder?

Question:

In my opinion that is 25% of the problem. In my opinion the other 75% of the problem is the corporate culture at Western Pacific Housing. For example, Western Pacific Housing makes the decision on when the walk thru date is, and then within 1 day of walk thru, Western Pacific Housing proceeds to close escrow.  For us, at walk thru, our home had a kitchen stove that didn’t fit in the wall because the hole was too small.  We had a kitchen stove sitting in the middle of our kitchen, and the Western Pacific Housing customer service person and his manager both knew about this, but this was acceptable to them for a walk thru and to proceed to close escrow. It just goes on and on and on.  This is how Western Pacific Housing does business. By the way, we purchased our home from the San Francisco Bay Area Division of Western Pacific Housing.  They have recently acquired another builder, and this link now automatically goes to that builder’s web site. http://www.westernpacifichousing.com

Response:

We unfornately purchased a new/used home from Western Pacific Housing and it has been a complete nightmare, and we would definitely never recommend that anyone purchase a home from this builder. e.g. We told Western Pacific Housing that our HVAC had a primary drain outlet that had a drain pipe without a slope, and a secondary drain without a pipe connected to it.  And so what did the Western Pacific Housing Customer Service person do? #1. He put a plug into the secondary drain outlet and said water shouldn’t be coming out of there, and so it can be plugged.  The whole purpose of this secondary drain is to let people know that the primary drain is plugged. #2. To put a slope on the primary drain pipe, he cut one of the down pipes, removed a small piece, and then pulled the pipe coming out of the HVAC down placing stress on the primary drain plastic. He then connected the pipe using a fitting that left a kink in the pipe.  He did this rather than properly replace the pipe so that it had the correct slope without stressing the HVAC outlet plastic. Question: Does anyone think that putting a plug into a secondary drain outlet makes sense? Question: Does anyone think the above repairs make sense?  If so, why? This is Western Pacific Housing does everything.  Everything is about doing the cheapest and quickest way of doing everything, and if the home owner complains, give him a hard time, and then maybe do yet another more half baked repair again.

Dear Dick, Unfortunately, the lowest bidder almost always gets awarded the construction contract.  Do you think that maybe that had anything to do with your nightmare? Jabarco
