Here in U.S I usually try to stay in Embassy suites or marriott suites so that our family of 5 can stay in the same room.costs more than 1 room but less than 2 ,plus it’s convenient & safe&we get to spend time together. Is there an equivalent chain(s) in OZ , specifically Sydney,Cairns&Melbourne ? Thanks

If the marriott suite your refer to is the MARRIOTT Hotel chain, then yes there is a MARRIOTT HOTEL in Brisbane Queensland. My business often has clients coming to Sydney (where I live) from overseas and wanting to bring families. We book them into the York Apartments (http://www.theyorkapartments.com.au/) and have never had a complaint. Well located in the centre of the city and, with the right request at booking time, you should be able to get a view of the Harbour Bridge from your balcony. With US dollars in Australia everything will seem remarkable value so the price should be acceptable. Greg PS: I really have no connection with the York at all.

For the price of a hotel room you’d be better off with an apartment with two bedrooms and a lounge – in Australia will cost you a lot less than Marriott would give you for one room in the US. Try Oakford at www.oakford.com for Sydney and Melbourne, for Cairns I recommend Tuna Towers which has good suites and interconnecting rooms. See www.tunatowers.com.au Regards David Bennetts

The York Apartments was recommended on this board recently; looks like a nice place in a great location. The apartments are fully-equipped (kitchen and laundry) and the facilities look top rate. There are 3 restaurants located on-site and one offers room service. Perhaps if the initial poster sees this message, he/she can give you more info. http://www.theyorkapartments.com.au/ There’s a 20% internet discount that expires tomorrow (actually, with the time difference, more like today). See "specials". With the discount, the studio comes to about $67 USD p/nt and the one bedroom about $72 USD p/nt. 2BR/2BA is also available at a very reasonable price and they have weekly rates. The York Apartment Hotel in Sydney has such suites available and is well situated I have no experience of the other cities you mention Keith

I just returned from 9 weeks in OZ and I can highly recommend The York in Sydney. Check their website at http://www.theyorkapartments.com.au. In Melbourne, we stayed at Paramount Apartments on exhibition street. Wonderful apartment in a great location. Both cities have many apartment hotels and serviced apartments. Go to http://melbourne.citysearch.com.au/ to search. I’ve also used the Waldorf chain and the Saville Park chain, both are good, but variable from city to city. Apartment hotels and serviced apartments usually include washers and dryers in the apartments, which we found to be a great convenience. For the first time, we came home with clean laundry. Stan

In Cairns we stayed at Villa Vacluse (sp?), very nice centrally located….Greg
