Question:
Looking for any advice on where to go and what to see in and around Cairns, any particularly nice places to stay, any package tours that were good value for money that people would recommend. We’re spending just over a week there in the middle of October. Cheers. BF.

I would recommend the Koala Court apartments. Easy walking distance to downtown. And each apartment has its own washer and dryer. Loved Cairns – been there in 96 and 99. Do a rainforest tour (there are many) but if you like animals, don’t miss Wildworld!! You can hold/pet a koala and feed kangaroos. A highlight for me. The Aborigine cutlural center and Kuranga are also worth while.

There are literally *hundreds* of one-day (and longer) "things to do" around Cairns. And that refers only to options that do not require you to rent a car. The last time we were in the Cairns area (a month ago or so) we went up to Port Douglas. We also visited the Palmerston National Park (excellent walks), several sites on the Atherton Tableland and also went as far as Cooktown. What sort of things are you interested in? The Tradewinds Esplanade web site offers plenty of examples of great things to do around Cairns, and you can also book accommodation with them online https://www.tradewinds-esplanade.com.au -Raewyn

^^^^^^ It is Kuranda – You can go one way by steam train and return by Skyrail above the tree tops – great. Don’t miss Port Douglas & the RainForest Habitat (bird park). Take a 4WD tour to Cape Tribultion and the Bloomfield River; Croc spotting boats on the Daintree River. A drive to the Atherton Tablelands is interesting too – small scenic lakes, sugar cane fields etc. Vicki

No one recommended a reef trip. I would certainly recommend it. There are hundreds of cruises available, however I love Ocean Spirtr Cruises. http://www.oceanspirit.com.au One resort in the middle of the city is the Oasis Cairns. It’s great, luxurious and has and incredible pool. Have a look at http://www.oasis-cairns.com.au Enjoy your trip, the weather is incredible here at the moment. I agree! A reef trip is one of the best things to do in Cairns. We did the trip one year ago with the Ocean Spirit to Upolu Cay and it was dreamy. It
