Not at all; you end up looking at laundry in a different way.  We wash clothes now more like we wash dishes — a few times a week, rather than setting aside an afternoon or an evening to do the laundry.

I recently moved to Brussels, and need to buy a new washer and dryer.  I noticed that there are various models that combine both functions in one machine.  Do these work very well?  Has anyone any experience?

If you are talking about the kind that turns the washer unit into dryer unit and automatically dry your cloth after they are washed, I would say you should think about whether you really want to wait until the first load dries before you put in the second load for washing.  That is my first impression when I read about it, but I don’t have any experience with how well the machine work.

I saw a washer/dryer combination on a home show review on television the other day. I did a search on the internet and came up with SPLENDIDE 2000
